Turning Pointe
The National Ballet of Canada has undergone
dramatic change in recent years, owing in no small
part to renowned former prima ballerina Karen
Kain. As artistic director, Kain has led the
company to a fresh form that reflects a new
generation’s desire for experimentation and
openness. Photographer Sian Richards has captured
this transition with the same spirited, modern
approach as Kain’s vision: respect for the
company’s storied history, but a focus on its
dynamic future.
