Immigrants & Identity: Early 20th -Century Photos in Manitoba
William James Sisler was an educator who helped
immigrant children acquire English, social skills
and academic knowledge. His progressive approach
to education included documenting the immigrant
experience in the early 1900s in the North End of
Winnipeg. Sisler captured and articulated a
reality that is now memory. His images have been
used in ethnic studies in Manitoba, but this is
the first exhibit devoted exclusively to his
photography.
