RECURRENT MEMORIES: Historic Jewish Sites in Canada and Poland
In the sweep of history, the cherished physical
resources of Jewish communities often are
abandoned, sometimes to be reclaimed and restored
in later years. In Recurrent Memories, three
photographers document Jewish architectural and
memorial sites that occupy space in between memory
and history. Old downtown synagogues in Montreal
and Toronto, and buildings and gravesites in
Poland’s former wartime ghettos, all exert strong
emotional claims on communities once preoccupied
with loss and now adapting to change.
