ORD: Documenting the Definitive Modern Airport
In the second half of the 20th century, Chicago’s
O’Hare International Airport was the biggest and
busiest facility of its kind in the world. ORD
assembles photographs of O’Hare by Toronto’s
Robert Burley, describing its airfield as a
complex, managed landscape, with Chicago’s Hedrich
Blessing, depicting its modern architecture as
Chicago’s largest public works project. Together,
they illustrate half a century of design at
O’Hare, and the work of photographers who have
documented it.
