The first line of Paul Theroux’s African travel
memoir, Dark Star Safari, reads “All news out of
Africa is bad.” When we hear about the ravages
of disease, hunger and war there, it seems
impossible to disagree. And yet I do. I travelled to
Kenya and Tanzania in August 2005 and while all
news out of Africa may be bad, being in Africa is
something much more. These photos are a bit of
being in Africa.
