Julya Hajnoczky Aurora Arborealis
Julya’s work is a critical examination of human impacts on the natural world and how ecosystems are changing in our current era. Her work presents intimate portraits of ecosystems by incorporating ecological cues and highlighting the interconnectedness of species. She adopts and adapts scientific investigation practices, foraging specimens ethically from natural environments. She investigates ecosystems through site visits and consultations with experts, then, arranging the specimens on a high-resolution scanner, composing intimate portraits. The large-scale, unframed photographs on matte paper provide a close look at each object. Her images are elegiac and dark, evoking a future nostalgia.
