Flat Out
- Suite 903, 110 Spadina Ave
In “Flat Out” the scanner was used as a camera.
This
detached mechanical technique of reproduction
distances art
from craft and eliminates creative decision
making. The
system-operator scans, colour corrects, proofs
and
prints.
The use of impoverished and decontextualized
subject matter –
turning the unwanted into “art” – creates a larger
record of
everyday failed utopias, an allegory of
disposability and an
ironic celebration of waste in late capitalist
culture.
