‘Alcheminement’ refers to the path of an alchemical
transmutation. Here, the steps of classical Indian
Bharatanatya
lead the dancer from self-overcoming to
self-realisation, from
one pole to the other, each step photographed and
transferred
from a third or photographic pole (the Polaroid)
to a medium
where “the fluid” and “the fixed” conjoin as
portraits processed
onto watercolour paper. Dramatic choreography meets
painterly photography in a dialogue of interactive
alchemy.
