Loraine Luong The Comfort in Clutter
The artist states: “Hoarding stems from the inability to let go. Living through hardships such as war and poverty has ingrained in my grandfather a mindset to live with the uncertainty of tomorrow, therefore he finds it necessary to collect objects that may come in use for the future. Growing up with a hoarder subconsciously influenced the way I perceive clutter and disorganization.
“Instead of seeing it as a disorder, I strangely find warmth, comfort and familiarity because of my home, upbringing and relationship with my grandfather. The mass of clutter reflects a time where sacrifices were made; in order to survive one must be resourceful.”
