Symbols and celebrations
The Sanskrit word bhakti means attachment to
god,
true unchanging love with no expectations. This
attachment is expressed and celebrated through
the
practice of Pujas, acts showing respect to the
divine
through invocations and rituals. These activities
are an
integral part of virtue in India where each deity is
believed to have certain characteristics reflected
in the
nature of the rituals. Photographer Sami Siva
captures a
snap-shot of these rituals common in the rural
parts of
southern India.
