Gerard Baron An Un(Common) Family
An Un(Common) Family is a collection
of ten candid portraits of a Southeast
Asian family taken during Baron’s
journey across remote parts of rural
Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia,
the Philippines and Indonesia from
2007 to 2008 to discover his heritage.
This photo essay explores the simple
moments, emotions and expressions
that transcend borders and are common
to all people. Baron asks questions
about what has been lost in all of our
apparent sophistication.
