The ArtHeart Community Art Centre
exhibition combines various media
to challenge and confront historical
photographic portraiture. Photo
transparencies coupled with encaustic
techniques many millennia old illustrate
the power, texture and ambivalence
of cultural background versus
photographic backdrop. The power of
the portrait, including its indication
of status, is explored through content,
texture and transparency to reveal the
complexity of individual composition.
