The reality that is constructed by the census is
seldom expressed in the reality of modern daily
life. Jorge Chaves discreetly and unassumingly
captures daily situations such as boys immersed in
a game of marbles, presenting a life which does
not reflect Peru’s 54% unemployment. The body of
work “Saudades de Portugal” is part of an ongoing
project documenting life in Portugal, both sets of
images showcasing hidden truth and underlying beauty.
