Judd Brucke, Bonnie Whitehall The Refuge of II
The portrait series The Refuge of II shows impassioned lovers, separated by war and distance, who perish from the insurmountable struggle to face death and loss. The black-and-white photographs offer little trace of an exact setting, but they resemble archival documents from an imprecise moment in the 20th century. A video loop connects the individual portraits, pays tribute to wartime photographic works, and references seminal film works and documentary combat footage
