AFTERMATH: IMAGES FROM GROUND ZERO
- Hewlett-Packard Gallery
Following the collapse of the World Trade Centre
on September 11, 2001, Joel Meyerowitz began
recording a moment in history that will be etched in
our minds forever. “My task was to make a
photographic record of the aftermath, the
awesome spectacle of destruction, the reverence
for the dead, the steadfast, painstaking effort of
recovery, the life of those in the zone whose act
of salvation has embedded itself deeply into the
consciousness of all of us…”.
Since this time, Meyerowitz has created an
inventory of over 8000 images for the World Trade
Centre Archive. The archive, when complete, will
produce an artistic record of the immediate
aftermath of the tragedy and the neighborhood as
it has evolved. A selection of photographs have
been traveling across the globe and seen by over
4 million people worldwide, from Jerusalem to
Islamabad, Rome, Paris, London, Kuwait, Moscow,
Istanbul and over 200 other cities. Presented by
Hewlett-Packard in partnership with CONTACT for
the Canadian premier of this exhibition.
Lecture May 2, Jackman Hall, AGO.
