Lost
London based British photographer Stephen Gill
practices a conceptual approach to documentary
photography: the insistent development of an idea
without altering or intervening in the action. In the
series Lost, bewildered people search
through maps of the dense and tangled streets of
London. Focusing on minute details and seemingly
mundane situations, Gill’s images capture classic
characteristics of disorientation and discovery in
the city with great wit and a dash of irony.
The installation of Gill’s photographs in St. Andrew
subway station, opposite a series of images by
Canadian artist Stephen Waddelll, sheds light on
the intertwined forces of autonomy and
dependence in contemporary urban life.
