Wayne Salmon Play Mas: A Portrait of Carnival
For twenty-five years the artist has been photographing Carnival, not only as a spectacle, but as deep and vibrant, and he has traced the living relationship between Trinidad’s Carnival and Toronto’s Caribbean Carnival.
This work centres the people who build, sustain, and pass on traditions—from Port of Spain to Toronto. The images form a portrait of Carnival as lived culture, carried across the Middle Passage, reshaped in the diaspora, and renewed throughout generations.
