Explore one of the earliest photographic printing processes and learn to create beautifully warm, aubergine-tinged images on paper hand-coated in salt and silver.
In this hands-on workshop, we'll cover the fundamentals of Salted Paper Printing, from paper sensitization and contact printing in a UV unit, to processing and drying the final print. Techniques for creating basic digital negatives will also be discussed.
Participants must submit a black and white digital image two weeks prior to the workshop. A digital negative will be produced from this image by the instructors for use in the session. Everyone can expect to leave with a small salted paper print they've created, the digital negative from which it was produced, and a handout detailing the topics covered.
No previous darkroom experience required.
Shalan and Paul's work explores identity, mortality, and memory. Through various forms— including, portrait, environmental, and still-life—the Toronto-based duo examines the fluid nature of these forces and their capacity to alienate and bind. They frequently collaborate with notable individuals, brands, and publications.
